Human slavery as practiced in the US pre-civil war was a "cultural tradition". An evil tradition that a war was fought to abolish. No sane person today would put forth the argument that slavery should have been preserved as an "intangible cultural heritage". Wrong acts are wrong and can not be made right by repeating them over and over.

An evil act that has been perpetrated long enough to be classified as 'cultural' - makes it all the more repugnant and urgent to put an end to it.

We, as members of the human species, are endowed with cultural evolution allowing us to adapt our culture and correct our past behavior as we evolve and learn more of our place in the universe. A morally improving culture is the only tradition we need to protect.
